FAQ

Q? What are the definitions regarding fire protection?
A.
Integrity against fire:

of a structural element is its ability to block the passage of flames and hot exhaust gases to its unexposed side in the event of a fire attack from one side.

Self-closing frame:

it is called that which is equipped with a suitable mechanism for returning it to the closed position.

Emergency exit:

is the entrance opening to a fire-protected escape route, or directly to a safe outdoor area.

Escape route:

is called a continuous and unobstructed route for escaping from any part of a building to a safe, usually outdoor area, in case of fire."

Fire resistance:

it is called the ability of a construction or a structural element to resist for a specified period of time, called the fire resistance index, to the thermal effects of a fire, without loss of stability, integrity and resistance to the passage of heat.

Fireproof frame:

each frame, tested together with its support devices in a fire resistance test, presents a specified fire resistance index.

Fire compartment:

Part of a building or even an entire building that is hermetically enclosed by structural elements with a predefined, as the case may be, fire resistance index.

Q? When is a fireproof roll certificate valid?
A.

Fire protection rolls must be accompanied by official certificates (test report) from an approved Fire Testing Institute, with test roll dimensions larger than the sold roll. Otherwise, when the sold roll exceeds the dimensions of the certificate, then this certificate is invalid and not accepted by the competent Services.

Q? Which Institutes are authorized to carry out combustion tests of frames and issue relevant certificates?
A.

In order for a Testing Institute to issue LEGAL and VALID fire protection certificates for frames, it must be accredited and recognized by ESYD with a written certification.

(This written confirmation accompanies the certificate of the frames sold to the customer, to be submitted to the competent Fire Service)

Q? How do fire-resistant blinds work during a fire?
A.

The shutters must close automatically at the start of the fire without the use of electricity or batteries (with a signal from the fire detection) or without a signal due to an increase in temperature to 68 Co.

Q? Can a roll with plastic or aluminum parts be fireproof?
A.

A fireproof roll cannot have plastic or aluminum parts because it has to withstand a temperature of 1100 Co, where of course the plastic and aluminum have completely melted.
